Elementary school students of all ages enjoy visits from the Fofers. A Foferific school visit is an entertaining, educational and motivational experience, engaging imaginations, sparking a sense of wonder and encouraging creativity. After the one hour musical, animated performance, Shana answers the many questions audiences always have about the Fofers and their island. She discusses teaching herself animation, web design and digital recording to create The Fofer Show, all while staying in her life-long home state of Maine. As a role model, Shana demonstrates the power of the creative spirit and how Maine can serve as an inspiration to the imagination. Teachers appreciate that The Fofer Show provides a valuable and memorable experience that lasts beyond the school visit. Preparing for The Fofer Show can include watching a selection of animated music videos at Fofers.com and printing Foferific coloring pages from the website for kids to complete and make into mobiles. Or teachers can assign students to decorate a classroom wall to look like the island of Fof. After Shana’s visit, teachers play the album A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree for children during quiet-time. (Each classroom receives a complimentary CD). Others have assigned students to write stories about the day they visited the island of Fof. On their own, children have drawn pictures, written songs and devoted entire journals to the Fofers. Kids are drawn into the world of the Fofers because it’s familiar and real. At the same time, it’s a magical place where anything is possible. “In today's world, imagination and creativity are taking a backseat to video games and television. The Fofer Show lets children experience fantasy at its best. They can relate to the Fofers and actually envision themselves on the Island of Fof. Children don't even seem to realize they’re learning about values such as friendship, compassion and forgiveness, while learning facts about the earth and the ocean.” Crystal Dow, Tremont Consolidated School
